As a trope, the whole Sam empathises with the monsters and Dean takes the hard line is getting very old.

It is heavy on block quotes from G K Chesterton, as well as heavy on the theology/religion, but like I said it comes at from an angle I hadn't consider before.I guess that is why I like it.

the dynamic of Sam&Dean has fluctuated and evolved so much over the years, but so often returns to their gut reactions. I guess however much ramblin-rosie's point was valid, that Dean had moved beyond the lies and distrust. But you also can't blame him. The Winchester's world is rarely black and white these days.

I think all of us, even when we grow and change, can still have a tendency to to return to our gut reactions if we aren't careful. And given the world the Winchesters live in, they have so many things they have to be careful about, sometimes their growth beyond their gut reactions aren't the first they think about.
