There is no sensible way to describe my squee on this episode. None whatsoever. I reached decibels previously unheard.
I was partially spoiled, but didn't mind overly as I had no idea WHEN the Dr would find out River was Amy's daughter and this... was perfect. I loved the gathering of the Debtors and the fact that the Dr got angry, so so angry. Yeah, yeah, there was a trap and a trick and River is still out there, but *pfff* its the Dr. We know it works out - sorta, kinda, maybe.
Right up to the final scene of The Almost People, I was having a massive argument with Season 6, who frankly was getting rather fed up with me and my inability to identify exactly what it was that was bugging me. But something has. (I still don't know exactly what it is, but...)
6.1 and 6.2. were marvelous and not just because Mark Sheppard was in them. It was weird time travelness, River, the Stetson, mystery, scary aliens, a call back to the Lodger, lovely.
6.3 was a little iffy, and I saw the Siren is a Doctor thing coming from a mile off - the moment they stepped on the alien ship.
6.4 was pure and utter brilliance with Idris and the scary House and just everything!
6.5 and 6.6 I didn't like so much because everyone was being so dim and intolerant and stupid. Eveyone except for Rory, bless him and the Dr. 6.6 was redeemed with the shocker that Amy was a Fleshie... and oh boy, karma!
6.7 with Roman!Rory - gah, so hot and the collection of the Doctor's army and just everything... 6.7 makes me go back to 100% Season 6 love.
But you can see why Season 6 is not so impressed with me - because I can't quantify what's annoying me or bugging me or whatever. Is it the looming Dr death in 200 years? Is Eleven's haircut? Or that I wasn't too sure about the subplots and running themes? I don't know. But the episodes, notably 6.5 and 6.6 have been a little darker than usual and maybe I'm Who-ed out, but sheesh... thank goodness for 6.7 because Wowza! I'm ambivalent no longer!
