Tis an odd thing. I find that I can feel quite proprietary about my fandoms when people I feel are indifferent or casual fans express an interest or love of said fandom.

An example. An acquaintance has recently started sporting Star Wars memorabilia/fan wear and my instant reaction was 'you are not a fan. you are a fake'. I am well aware that this acquaintance only saw episodes 1 to 3 a few years ago when one of her friends made her watch it. My hair stands on end. She saw Star Wars in chronological order. O.o I am aghast.

I realise that I am being ridiculous. I know I'm being pretentious and all together superior to a degree most unbecoming. Yet, I feel that way I do. My niece by sheer virtue of her youth is also a recent fan, and yet I do not mind her recentness. Why then does M's fannish appreciation irk me so? I feel this way at times when I hear people wax lyrical about marvel or DC in the cinema, expressing their innocent glee over future movies and plots. I say to myself: 'You are too young to appreciate the awesomeness of this movie/plot/trailer'.

My conclusion is thus: I am old curmudgeon
