Colour me... excited. Not overly, not overwhelmingly, not OTT. Just excited.

It seems to be coming together. And I saw mixed reactions to 6.11 (didn't read 'em, probably won't) but I'm - delighted with how everything is falling together. River's story is utterly fascinating. The Doctor's death being a fixed point in time. I love Rory and Amy's relationship. And for the first time, I felt that the Doctor's impact on the lives of those he loves, travels with, meets was explored without OTT melodrama. I want to hug that man so badly and tell Amy and Rory to run, run as far from him as possible.

Ah, so complex and twisted (in a good way). I'm looking forward to 6.12 (and the finale on the weekend too)

I have to say, that was one thing comment fics were good for (thinking back to the really early days for me...all of 2009ish). It was okay to just be terrible, because on the whole everyone was nice about it, and you don't have to face those first few atrocities ever again. Though I do have few old shames still lurking about on fanfiction.net, they're still not as bad as the first one or two I remember doing. Oh god, they were bad.

It is both the benefit and downside of posting fanfic over the years. Sometimes its a pleasant surprise to read your old stuff but more often than not... its facepalm time. especially when you realise that you've become so cynical (er... selective) over the years that you wouldn't have read it yourself. :)

That's okay. It just means you're good at avoiding things that are painful. Yup.

You know, I've always got to side-eye those people who post something amazing and then have a little comment like, "so I'm finally popping the fanfiction cherry, be kind!" It's just not fair. First outings *should* suck.

Though maybe I say this because I haven't been writing for a long time. I don't think I'd cringe quite as much at the self-insert I wrote for english class back when I was 10 as I cringe at just the shitty, shitty dialogue and telling-not-showing (to say nothing of bad formatting) in my first real forays into fandom.

Nah, its a fluke I tell you. Literary, creative writing students who aced their exams taking a crack at fanfic.

Also, we tend to be our own worst critics - by far.
