There was one which I still consider the best I ever have read. It started on a planet, written from the POV of a young boy and what he witnessed in a facility for handicapped/disabled persons. It took a while till you realized that the grey haired man they had there was our Jack. Something had happened to him (which was explained later) and he was left without any abilities or memory. So they treated him well, fed him etc., but did not anything else with him. But the boy was able to go through to him, and slowly teach him talking and eating on his own and walking etc. And that was the most lovely sight, to see him coming out of his shell and connect with the boy. Sometimes he would do or say something which let you realize, yes, that is our Jack indeed - and yet so different.
Jack had totally forgotten about his former life and ended up becoming a real member of society at this planet. It was all well thought out and described - the aliens did not talk so much with their mouths, more with their hands, sign language, and we know how good Jack always was with that, so he picked up on it well. He ended up being a Dad to three adopted children and lots more stuff happening. So, he led a wonderful life - till SG-1 found him. As there was another story going on parallel to this one, the author retold some important events from seasons 3 till 6, from the POV that Jack was not there to make a difference and what would happen then. Such interesting ideas!
Kinda like the movie "It's a wonderful life", you know? So you saw how big Jack's influence was for the better. So, in the end they found him, and it became a time travelling story, with them going back to the beginning and setting it all right. And there was a sad moment when he had to decide whether or not to leave his kids and life as he knew it, for people he did not remember much. But it all got a good solution in the end. It was a really great round story, which could easily make a good book.
What I liked most was the beginning - the aliens were not evil, they just did not know better. As the human physique was of course so much different from their own. They did not know how to treat him, you know? They might not even have known they were hurting him. Just imagine, if we had a grey Roswell alien, ill, how would we be supposed to treat him without knowing how his organs function? There was a lovely Doctor who tried her best she could. I later talked to the author and see, she was a Doctor herself. Told you they are the best for such kind of stories!
