Kumtrya!

Have you ever found yourself swimming in unfamiliar waters? Well, the last few weeks, I have been paddling in a very unexpected fic/fandom pool. I am ridiculously excited about the upcoming Avengers film, and could quite happily rewatch Thor, Captain America and Iron Man over and over again if I had the time.

dear [livejournal.com profile] claudiapriscus introduced me to some interesting Avenger fic and then... I found a whole slew of Clint Barton/Darcy Lewis stories. There isn't a huge amount but what there is - is cute will written and well... hilarious. And I find myself hoarding the remaining fics like candy. I don't like pairing/shipping fics. I read fanfic for h/c and drama and plot and action. Not romance.

?Why? then so much love for this Clint/Darcy fic?

I don't know the Avenger comics well, and Jeremy Renner's Hawkeye is not like the comics (from what I can tell) and well, Darcy doesn't even exist in the comics, and lives solely due to Thor and that great little taser scene. And I can't stop reading about their 'romance' O.o

[livejournal.com profile] claudiapriscus and I had a chat once about what type of female characters fandom and hollywood produce and I know the Megan Fox characters are all for the nerd boys wet dreams about the hot girls they'll never date. My introspection on why I'm loving the Darcy fics has led me to this conclusion - its well written, fantastic self insertion, wish fulfilment fic for geeky/dorky girls. The quiet, but fiesty girl who finds herself surrounded by hot action superhero men and since she likes gen (and not slash) well, romance blooms with one of the guys. The not quite as well know, but still flipping hawt robin hood type with the great arms that you first fell in love with during that House episode.

I guess, right now, I need a few of those stories, they are meeting an emotional need. My h/c fic is very dark at the moment, and its nice to dip a toe into a genre I normally avoid and that's kinda light and goofy. And the writers who are dabbling in this are fantastic, filling the stories with pop culture references, amusing moments and well, very nice 'first' scenes - first kiss, first realisation that well, he's kinda into me. And well, Avenger-humour-goodness.

I wonder about the state of my mind. But I'm still loving it. :)
