Fandom Meme
I think Sunday nights are becoming meme nights :) As seen on the delightful
auntmo9's journal - a meme about fandom firsts:
First TV show I had self-insertion fantasies about:
Not a show - a book. I don't self insert - its not why I write or read fanfiction. But I clearly remember wanting to step in Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series and telling Rand al'Thor that everything was going to be ok. Considering that the series still hasn't been finished, I don't know if it is - but I wanted to give that guy a hug. I stopped reading the series as it got WAY too frustrating. The next time I wanted to self-insert was with season 3 and 4 of Supernatural - to give Sam and Dean a hug, and then slap them both up side the head.
First fandom in which I interacted (online and in person) with other fans:
The Magnicent Seven. While not my first online fandom, it was the first one were I posted fanfic and then chatted with other writers and fans. And there's been no going back since :) Eh, its still nice meeting new folk who liked the show.
Pairing in the first slash fanfiction I read:
Magnificent Seven, too. It was a fantasy D&D AU that I was completely intrigued by - enough to handwave the minimal slashiness.
First RPS/RPF I read:
J2 - a fic where Jared was a kid from the rough part of town and Jensen a goodie two-shoes preppy kid. It gave me such a 'squick' factor and I did not finish it (it went slash quickly) but RPF continues to squick me and intrigue me at the same time. As its mostly slash, I can happy resist.
First fanfiction I read that made me think, 'YES, this is exactly the kind of fanfiction I'd like to write...':
A crossover. ST vs SW. I wanted to try my own hand at it. I never did, and it took years to get to writing and posting my own.

auntmo9, I'm going to use the first pairing, rather than the first fanfic - as my first (and majority of fanfic) is gen, non-pairing. First fic with pairing? An M7 fic, with a Vin/OFC and Chris/Mary pairing.
First OTP:
Dean/Impala. Sam/Laptop. Shep/Atlantis. Rodney/ZPM. :)
First fannish friend I met in person:
none yet. :(
First character I formally roleplayed:
O.o None (that I am aware of)

yes, because it was gen and J2 and well written.
no, because I realised why I still don't like J2 fic. Aside from the slash, you can't really get a handle on characterisation. We assume Jared and Jensen are a certain way, have certain characteristics, based on their antics at Cons etc, BUT ... its not necessarily true.
I just... it still squicks me writing (and then reading) about real people and the suppositions about them and reading a gen version did not allay that squick, it if anything highlighted it for me.
So... yeah - still a canon-girl! :)

The the idea of playing around with real people squicks me too.

I just know it would bother me if I were the subject of RPS fiction, and while I am sure they may not care, I'll just as happily not read it :)
