Pick a paragraph (or any passage 500-1000 words) from anything I've written, and comment to this post with that selection. I will then give you a DVD commentary on that snippet: what I was thinking when I wrote it, why I wrote it in the first place, what's going on in the character's heads, why I chose certain words, what this moment means in the context of the rest of the fic, lots of awful puns, and anything else that you'd expect to find on a DVD commentary.

Is that a tramp stamp?

Ok, Is that a Tramp Stamp The Dvd Commentary to a on the fly comment meme ficlet:
*puts on my serious analysis glasses*
The concept for this little ficlet was born from the HIMYM episode when Ted gets a butterfly tramp stamp. Innocent ole me did not know what a tramp stamp was so I did what I also do - googled it.
With that in mind, months (years?) later when I read sholio's prompt about Ronon seeing an unexpected tattoo my brain went straight to my quest about tattoos. Not something cool or groovy, Sheppard with a celtic cross between his shoulder blades or Rodney with e=mc something. Tramp stamps.
I then thought about who would be the owners of said tramp stamps.
I started with Jennifer Keller because she was a) a girl and b) the most likely to have a 'I regret this college night out' tattoo. She would have a butterfly (the typical one) and be defensive about it.
Jennifer's claim that 'its not' is - its not a tramp stamp. It is a butterfly.
And it was written.
I thought about using Rodney next, as Ronon might have glimpsed it on a mission, or whatever. But Rodney is too easy to fluster and bluff so I went with someone not so easily flustered. Lorne.
Lorne's tattoo was a bit of a think. I also did not want it to be an actual tramp stamp, but something Lorne, the artist, might actually get. In the end after much thought, I went for something that'd be ironic. The Eye of Ra. Something that only a member of the SGC would find amusing.
And it was written.
Last, the moment I thought of Lorne, I knew I had to use Woolsey as the finale. Elizabeth would handle any queries with aplomb, but more, I didn't want the last tattoo to be on a woman.
Writing Woolsey's tattoo reveal just kinda flowed. Venue: meeting. Situation: Ronon bored and looking for something interesting. Also, here I wanted the tattoo explained. So - either Japanese or Chinese characters which Ronon could not read.
Using Sheppard as the vehicle of further exploration and 'poking' felt right. In my head Rodney would be laughing too much. Teyla would be too polite. Jennifer and Lorne too amused.
I also liked the idea that Sheppard can read Japanese.
The tattoo being the character for soup instead of courage comes straight out The Big Bang Theory and Penny's tattoo that Sheldon confirms as 'soup'. I also liked the idea that John's eyesight was good enough to read it from under the table.
Woolsey's tattoo may not actually say 'soup'. Sheppard could just be teasing him.
Either way, I thought it was funny and a good way to end.
So it was written :)
Thanks AuntMo!
