One last movie review

The Eagle

Insta-reaction

*facepalm* I really really shouldn't watch the movies of books I like. The Bad? Mohican Picts. Channing's accent. Unnecessary children killing. Deserters returning to fight.

The Good? Esca. That jaw! Those eyes! *swoon*
Review after some thought and sleep

If I had not read the book, known the book or even vaguely remembered the book, I think I would have liked the movie more. It was beautifully shot. The scenery and landscapes and lighting - just beautiful. And I liked all the Gaelic. Not historically accurate using Gaelic, but it was lovely to hear.

The plot in and of itself (not comparing it to the book) was Ok. I liked the switch in places between Esca and Marcus and their continuing friendship.

Ah, Esca. Jamie. Ah.

I watched that movie a while ago and didn't think it was all that horrible. The murder of that little boy who was heroworshipping his older brother? was disturbing but not improbable. The battle in the beginning of the film was rather well done iirc.

But I never read the book - probably a plus for me because I defintly know what you went through in regard to horribble film adaptations. A memorable one for me in that regard is "the Scarlet Letter" with Demi Moore as Hester Prynne. That film butchered the novel!

Hi!

Well, the main issue I had with the little boy being killed was that I thought it unlikely that they had dragged this little guy the whole way (days apparently) just to kill him in front of Esca. If they had brought his head along, or something to prove he was dead, I would have had less issue with it.

And I agree with you, the movie is not horrible. My insta reaction above was more grumbly from the lack of book consistency that anything else. I have amended my insta-review with something a little more detailed.

The beginning battle was good indeed! And the scenery! So beautiful!

I need to remember the lesson I learn every time - books and the movies made about them - make you cry 9 times out of 10.
